Premise: Roman Catholic Education and Mass Attendance
We remind parents that you are the first educators of your children. Religious Education class does not take the place of your role as primary educators of the faith at home nor does it take the place of weekly Mass attendance. Students are expected to attend weekly Mass as part of their Catholic obligation in sustaining a relationship with Jesus and fulfilling the promise made at Baptism. It is not out of the ordinary for teachers or the Directors of Religious Education to ask students if they have attended Mass and reference the Gospel message from weekly Mass in their teaching.
Policies Grades 1 - 8
No School, No Religious Education
When there is no school for the public school children (i.e for professional development days, snow days etc), we do not have Religious Education classes.
Half Day, Religious Ed still in session
When there is a half day at the public schools Religious Education classes are still in session.
Inclement Weather
If the weather takes a turn for the worse please check WBZ channel 4 or WHDH channel 7 for local closings. We also try our best to personally notify families as quickly and efficiently as possible through email.
Absences
Classes meet once a week for 1 hour. There are only 22 sessions. It is very important to make Religious Education class a priority for your child/family. Absences should be rare and only if a child is very sick. If a child does miss class, the lesson needs to be covered at home with a parent, if needed, or independently if the child is of age. Please check in with your child's teacher for guidelines. Do notify the Religious Education Office if your child will be absent.
Tardiness and/or Early Dismissal
Children arriving late to class should report to the Religious Education Office before heading up to class. Children being dismissed early should report to the Religious Education office before leaving the building.
Confirmation Program Policies
Attendance – All Grade 9 and Grade 10 Confirmation students must participate in all class meetings in each of the two years. Along with attendance each student is required to come to class prepared.
Community Service - All Grade 10 are required to complete 12 hours of Community Service. The candidates’ works of service signify commitment to giving witness to Christ in daily life. Any service, that is part of the student’s high school, is not accepted.
